In 2021, QWIC started a substantial recall campaign of Trend/Compact batteries type BA00045 (490Wh) with serial numbers D5 til D8 and M17, M18 and M19. In the meantime, nearly 2000 batteries have been collected. In order to reach as many consumers and recall as many of these particular batteries as possible, we have extended the recall campaign until December 2024.

What is going on?

After conducting quality checks, QWIC determined that a part of the Trend/Compact Serie BA00045 (490Wh) battery with serial numbers D5 till D8 and M17, M18 and M19 do not meet our quality demands. We find it important that the safety of our QWIC-users is guaranteed and will not take any risk regarding this. Therefore, we are recalling these specific batteries to check them for quality and water resistance.

Step 2. Inform your customers

We are calling upon you to inform the consumers that own a Trend/Compact BA00045 (490Wh) battery about this recall campaign. Consumers can use the QWIC Recall information website to see if their battery is eligible for the recall campaign. In case the batteries are eligible, the QWIC dealer is to collect these from the consumers.

You received a battery, what now?

As soon as you have confirmed reading this e-mail, approached your customers proactively and received the first batteries, the next point of action applies:

Step 3. Register batteries with QWIC
When you receive a battery from a consumer you are to prepare it for shipping yourself. Like with any battery shipping, the battery needs to be sent in a specially certified battery case. When the battery is ready to ship, you can register via this special registerform for BA00045 batteries. After registering, the battery will be collected within 1 to 2 working days.

! Note, do not send the batteries to QWIC yourself. Nor give the battery along with a regular return. These batteries are sent to a battery revision company to be checked there.

Why do these batteries need to be checked?
After conducting quality checks, QWIC deemed a part of the Trend/Compact Serie BA00045 (490Wh) battery with serial numbers D5 till D8 and M17, M18 and M19 do not meet our quality demands. We find it important that the safety of our QWIC-users is guaranteed and will not take any risk regarding this. Therefore, we are recalling these specific batteries to check them for quality and water resistance. QWIC’s electric bikes are equipped with a high-quality Lithium-ion (LI-ion) battery. LI-ion batteries convert chemical energy into electricity and distinguish themselves with a high energy density and rechargeability. The risk with this type of batteries, or with any type of battery, is in the possibility to overheat. This can cause the battery to catch on fire. Overheating or fire in a battery can happen when a battery is not entirely watertight and when the safety mechanism is not activated. This possibility exists with a part of the Trend/Compact Serie BA00045 (490 Wh) battery with serial number D5 till D8 and M17, M18 and M19.

From when till when can I register batteries with QWIC?
The recall campaign is extended until December 2024. Batteries can be registered until the end of 2024 for checking.

When do I receive my battery back?
We try to return the battery as soon as possible and aim to do so within 2 weeks.

Am I to be financially compensated for this?
Yes, dealers receive €25, – (excl. VAT) for every checked battery.
