FAQ

Where can I find a QWIC point of sale?

Check the store locator for the nearest QWIC point of sale.

In which QWIC store is my ideal e-bike available?

Unfortunately, QWIC is not able to see which e-bikes are currently available in the different stores. However, we advise that you contact your nearest dealer. To do so, you can find an overview of our stores here.

Where can I go for a test ride?

You can visit any QWIC dealer for a free test ride. Check the QWIC store locator for your nearest point of sale. It is best to contact them in advance to make an appointment.

What is the range of my electric bicycle?

The total distance you can travel with your QWIC e-bike without charging in between is the range. To assess this properly, you should leave the battery connected to the charger for a full night. The range must be measured in one trip, and not spread over multiple days.

Battery capacity
The amount of energy in a battery is expressed in Watt hours (Wh).The number of Watt hours is calculated by multiplying the nominal Voltage (36V) by the number of Ampere hours (Ah). The higher the number of Watt hours, the higher the range!

Example: Assume that your battery has a capacity of 10 Ah and a current of 36 Volt. This battery provides: 10 Ah x 36 V = 360 Wh.

QWIC provides bicycles with 375 Wh, 470 Wh, 625 Wh and 735Wh batteries. You can find this specification at the bottom of the battery pack.

Important: Batteries always lose power over time, even if you do not use the e-bike. Also,  if the battery pack is connected to the bicycle constantly, it runs out significantly faster than when it is removed while you are not using the e-bike.

There are a number of factors that may reduce the range drastically. You can anticipate many of these factors to positively influence the range. Ask your dealer for personal advice. Factors that impact the range:

  • The total weight (weight of bicycle + rider + potential extra load)
  • Resistance (wind, tyre pressure, acceleration, clearance, road conditions and height differences)
  • Your riding behaviour (timely shifting and speed)
  • Outside temperature
  • Age of the battery pack (the battery capacity decreases as the pack gets older)
  • The use of power assistance programs

What is the maximum speed of an e-bike?

In the Netherlands, the maximum speed permitted with an electric bicycle is 25 km/h. All QWIC e-bikes are set to this speed. However, the powerful engine-support will make it easier for you to reach higher speeds than you are used to. We recommend trying the bicycle in a low-traffic environment to get used to it first. Important to know: riding at a higher speed reduces your range.

Does one particular QWIC e-bike run faster or further than the other?

It is possible, that two identical bicycles purchased at the same time have different ranges. New batteries do not always reach their exact potential – there are slight variations. It is therefore possible, that one of the bicycles actually performs better than specified. The same also applies to the support. It is possible, that one QWIC e-bike provides a slightly more powerful support than the other. However, these differences are just minimal.

Up to how many kg can I load my e-bike?

Our QWIC electric bicycles can carry up to 160 kg (depending on the model). This means, that the total weight of rider and potential luggage should not exceed this weight. However, some of our bikes only allow loads up to 140 kg and the QWIC Compact has a maximum capacity of 130 kg. Additionally, the front carrier allows 10 kg, while the back one can manage 20-25 kg (depending on the model). All our QWIC dealers are experts and know, which of the carrying capacities are applicable to which e-bike.

Can I also ride the bicycle without a battery pack?

With pedal assistance switched off, the bicycle has very little resistance when cycling. This makes it possible to also use our e-bikes as regular bicycles. Please note that if you are riding without battery, the lights will not work. However, if the battery pack is active in the bicycle and you leave the assistance level at “0”, the light will work.

What is the maximum speed of an electric bicycle?

Important to know: riding at a higher speed reduces your range.

How do I switch support on or off?

As soon as the control panel is switched on, the pedal assistance changes to “0”. Then, the “PLUS” and “MINUS” buttons can be used to increase or decrease it. Levels ranging from “1” to “8” are possible – position “8” provides the highest assistance level. You can also switch off pedal assistance completely by pressing the “MINUS” button until reaching “0”. Please note, that the battery runs out faster at a higher pedal assistance level than at a lower one.

What is pedal assistance?

The bicycle is equipped with electric pedal assistance. The motor supports your own efforts, so your performance improves with less exertion. The pedal assistance depends on pedal rotation as well as on the speed. Therefore, without pedalling, the motor does not do anything. Especially when starting up, the motor provides high acceleration to support your takeoff.

What is the difference between a mid-drive, front hub and rear hub motor?

E-bikes with a front hub motor are often cheaper than the ones with mid-drive – whereas the middle motor has a low centre of gravity and thus guarantees equal weight distribution. If you prefer a smoother and more natural drive, a rear wheel motor is recommended.

Can a child seat be installed on a QWIC e-bike?

Yes, certainly. All QWIC electric bicycles are Yepp and BoBike certified. The fitting of child seats was taken into account in the design. This makes our modern electric bicycles suitable for the whole family. Ask your QWIC dealer for advice when selecting a child seat. It may not always be possible to install a child seat in the front if the e-bike has a front end carrier.

What should I pay attention to when purchasing an e-bike?

First, establish the use of the electric bicycle in advance. Will you be commuting? How many kilometres do you want to be able to ride with it and in what landscape? Next, determine your suitable frame height in consultation with your QWIC dealer. Additional options are accessories, choice of battery and insurance (strongly recommmended). Our “E-bike chooser” wizard can help you select your ideal electric bicycle.

Is it a good idea to purchase the bicycle online?

It is possible to purchase a (new) QWIC e-bike on the internet from suppliers who are not registered as official dealers of the QWIC brand. They might offer an attractive discount. However, if you want to make use of service and warranty after the purchase, it is often difficult to return your e-bike to these kind of companies.

We therefore recommend, that you purchase your QWIC electric bike from an authorised QWIC dealer.

Where can I make a free test ride?

You can visit any QWIC dealer for a free test ride. Check the QWIC store locator for your closest point of sale. It is best to contact them in advance to make an appointment.

Is it possible to personalise the bicycle after purchase?

QWIC delivers its electric bicycles as displayed on the website. Adjustments to suit your personal requirements can be done by the authorised QWIC dealer after purchase. This should always be directly communicated with the dealer. Inquire about the options and costs in advance to avoid any unexpected expenses or uncertainties.

What is the correct frame size for me?

When purchasing a bicycle, it is important to choose the right frame size. Take your inseam measurement. If you multiply your inseam measurement with 0.68, the result is your correct frame size. Don’t forget to remove your shoes when measuring. If you choose an e-bike equipped with a suspended seat post, you can deduct 4 cm from the frame size, as it compensates this height difference.

How long does it take for my electric bicycle to be delivered?

The QWIC dealer is best at informing you about the delivery times of a particular bicycle. He knows his own inventory as well as that of QWIC. The delivery times may vary depending on the model.

Where can I find a QWIC dealer?

Check the QWIC store locator for your nearest point of sale.

Is the bicycle lock ART approved?

Your bicycle is equipped with an ART approved standard lock. The standard lock can be closed by turning the key clockwise and then pushing down the lock bracket. Next, pull the key out of the lock once you have reached the lowest position of the bracket. It is possible to purchase a cable lock from your dealer for extra security. To insure the bicycle, you need the following details:

Brand and type of bicycle:  QWIC, electric bicycle, model name (i.e. N7.1, N7.1URB, FN330.1)

Frame number: your unique frame number (see page 2), starting with E F Y

Brand and type of the ART approved lock: AXA defender or Trelock RS450 (NAZ)

Key number: your unique key number

Date of purchase: your date of purchase

Attention!

The lock of the battery pack and that of the bicycle both use the same key.

What is the ideal hight of the handlebar?

As a rule of thumb to determine the distance between the handlebar and the saddle, you should be able to touch the handlebars with your fist while resting your elbow on the point of the saddle. This setting varies, depending on your personal preferences. Please note that too much distance between the saddle and the handlebar is often the cause of neck, back and shoulder problems.

We recommend you adjust the handlebar and saddle to your needs with assistance from your dealer.

Adjusting the handlebar
With a fixed handlebar stem, the handlebar can be tilted by loosening the Allen head bolt at the front.

Additionally, the height of the handlebar can be adjusted by loosening the Allen head bolt on top. On the quick release handlebar stem, you can slide the pallet on the left side to raise the lever, allowing the handlebar to be adjusted in different directions.

On the quick release handlebar stem and with the lever tilted upward, you can adjust the height of the handlebar by tilting it to almost a right angle.

After this, the Allen head bolt at the handlebar stem tube is visible and accessible, and after loosening it, you can adjust the height of the handlebar.

Attention!

Don’t forget to re-tighten the bolts and always check that your handlebar is securely fastened after adjusting!

What is the ideal seat height?

Seat height means the distance between the saddle and the pedal (which is in its lowest position). The seat height is set correct, when your knee is slightly flexed while you have your foot on the pedal (in the lower position). Don’t hesitate to ask your dealer for advice!

Attention!
If you are able to place your feet flat on the ground, your saddle is too low.

Adjusting the seat height
The height of the saddle can be adjusted by loosening the Allen head bolt at the clamping ring with an Allen key.

Attention!
Keep in mind that the safety lines are NOT supposed to be visible once the saddle has been adjusted to your height.

How long will my battery pack last?

Like all battery cells, the capacity and thus performance of QWIC batteries decreases over time. However, QWIC guarantees that the battery pack will last at least two years. Please read the warranty terms for more information about batteries and range.

Where do I find the manual of my electric bicycle?

You will receive a manual with your purchase, as it is included in the packaging of the charger. All QWIC manuals can easily be downloaded from our website as well.

My bicycle has been stolen. What should I do?

Immediately report the theft to the police. To do so, you will need the frame number of your e-bike. You will find it in the papers you received with the purchase. If you have registered your electric bicycle online, you also received all the necessary data, including the frame number. If the e-bike is insured, you can provide the insurance company with proof of the report from the police for further assistance.

Where can I find the frame number of my bicycle?

The location of the frame number differs depending on the series. However, it is usually located near the bottom bracket, on the left side of the bicycle (at the bottom or on the side of the frame). Moreover, you can also find it in the bike manual.

What are the traffic rules for a speed pedelec?

The speed pedelec is subject to different traffic rules than a regular electric bicycle. In the Netherlands, the speed pedelec is treated like a moped. If you take your speed pedelec to a different country, make sure you are informed about applicable regulations.

I have an issue with my e-bike outside of the warranty period

You can take your QWIC electric bicycle to your point of sale. Then, the dealer can identify and assess issues. In case of questions or comments, the dealer can contact the technicians of our Customer Service department. Note: if the issue occurs outside the warranty period, most likely costs will be charged.

I have an issue with my e-bike during the warranty period

You can take your QWIC electric bicycle to your personal point of sale. The dealer then can identify and assess issues. He will handle any issues under warranty without extra costs. In case of questions or comments, the dealer can contact the technicians of our Customer Service department.

When does my battery have the highest capacity?

The capacity will increase at least during the first 10 charging cycles (e.g. to about 1000 km for the 625Wh battery), and only then will it reach the indicated full capacity. It is possible that two identical bicycles that were purchased at the same time each have a different range. However, new batteries always reach at least their specified performance. As there are slight variations, it is possible that some bicycles perform better than expected.

How can I prevent my e-bike from rusting?

In addition to regular cleaning, it is also a good idea to treat certain parts immediately after. We recommend lubricating chromed parts, unvarnished aluminium and stainless steel parts with acid-free petroleum jelly to prevent oxidation (rust). Rotating parts require grease/oil. It is important to regularly lubricate the chain, sprockets and shafts.

How do I clean my electric bicycle?

You can clean your bicycle by first removing the dirt with a soft brush and then washing it with warm water. Trust us – your e-bike will look like new again. Regular cleaning of the bicycle also increases its lifespan. But be aware of electronics and the battery pack, as they ideally should not get too wet. Thus, when cleaning your bicycle, it is best to remove the battery pack. Also, make sure no dirt enters the sensor plate in the sensor (near the bottom bracket). NEVER use a high-pressure cleaner! Additionally, many parts of the bicycle require grease/oil or petroleum jelly afterwards.

How do I maintain my QWIC electric bicycle?

QWIC recommends to have your bike checked regularly by your dealer. We also advise to have major maintenance performed on your bike at least once a year. A first service is recommended after 250 km or three months. Additional service is recommended if you feel it is necessary, for example before the start of the cycling season or if a long bike ride is planned. Remember that regular check-up’s prevent a lot of unnecessary damage in the long run, and therefore also a lot of avoidable costs!

You can also contribute to keeping your bicycle in excellent condition as long as possible.

Breakdowns on the road can happen to anyone – fortunately, there are many providers that offer service on the road against a small fee.

How long will my battery pack last?

Like all battery cells, the capacity of QWIC batteries decreases over time. QWIC guarantees, that the battery pack will last you at least two years. Please read the warranty terms for more information about batteries and range.

What is a Beltdrive?

What is a Beltdrive? A Beltdrive is a carbon-toothed belt that replaces the chain. The Beltdrive is quiet, clean and extremely durable. It doesn’t require lubrication and it runs particularly smooth. With this system, you can safely park your bicycle after a long trip through wind and rain, and use it again a few days later for the next trip – minimal maintenance.

What is the difference between a front, middle and rear motor?

E-bikes with a front hub motor are often cheaper than the ones with mid-drive – whereas the middle motor has a low centre of gravity and thus guarantees equal weight distribution. If you prefer a smoother and more natural drive, a rear wheel motor is recommended.

How do I get the most out of the battery?

The battery pack is the most important component of the e-bike. This is mainly due to the fact that it has the shortest life span compared to all other components – so treat the battery with care.

A number of tips to help you:
– When charging the battery, it is important to only plug the charger into the socket, when the battery on the other end is already connected.
– When there is no charge left in the battery, it is best to recharge it as soon as possible.
– To extend the life span of the battery pack, try to not completely drain it.
– Charge the battery at room temperature.
